Movie reccomendation: Zatoichi

Rating: 4/6

Synopsis
“Zatoichi is a 19th century blind nomad who makes his living as a gambler and masseur. However, behind this humble facade, he is a master swordsman gifted with a lightning-fast draw and breathtaking precision. While wandering, Zatoichi discovers a remote mountain village at the mercy of Ginzo, a ruthless gang-leader. Ginzo disposes of anyone who gets in his way, especially after hiring the mighty samurai ronin, Hattori, as a bodyguard. After a raucous night of gambling in town, Zatoichi encoutners a pair of geishas--as dangerous as they are beautiful--who've come to avenge their parents' murder. As the paths of these and other colorful characters intertwine, Ginzo's henchmen are soon after Zatoichi. With his legendary cane sword at his side, the stage is set for a riveting showdown.”(dlaznmovies)

Trailer

An english one, with that redicilous trailer-voice, of course...

Reccomendation:
Feel like watching an un-boring samurai movie? Then this is the movie for you. It has all the usual drama and sword-fighting(physical impossibilities included), which is all good, but what makes it so worth watching is how the movie is simply the spurts of… joy? between all the regular samurai action. Elements like good humor and occasional funky rhytms spices up the movie, keeping your interest. Even though such elements can be found in other martial arts movies, they then often completely go into the comedy-genera. This movie however, keeps the fun at such a level that it can make you laugh out loud, and still keep that samurai-serious feeling.

Takeshi Kitano does a good blind-man-with-mad-skills, and also directed, wrote and co-edited the movie(according to Wikipedia). The movie also won four awards, one for best director, so I guess I’m not the only one who enjoyed it.

Watch it. It might not be the most memorable movie you’ve ever watched, as the plot is kind of typical, but it’s among the best action-movies I’ve seen in a while.
Who knows, you might feel the same way.
You can find it on youtube, at least last time I checked..
