Drunken fist movies

I love movies with drunken fist!


Drunken fist, or Zui Quan, is a type of Chinese martial arts where you use certain movements to pretend that you are drunk. Although it might look kind of casual sometime, because they often use staggering movements and fluidity, but it's actually a really hard thing to master. I haven't tried of course, but I believe what I've heard. I don't think you can really be drunk while doing it:P

Due to the concept of drunk people fighting, this is perfect for movies. The story about someone getting super-power skills after quite an amount of wine is a familiar one.
Jackie Chan is the best one I've see at this in movies, maybe because he's so good at being foolish and skillfull at the same time, which fits the role really well. Drunk people are foolish, kung fu masters are skillfull.

He played in Drunken master(the first clip of the following video) in 1978(according to wikipedia), and it's really good. It's fun to see him young, and before Hollywood.

But as you can see, there are of course other movies and actors who has done it too, for example Jet Li.
I don't really know what I think about the kid with the bottle thoughXD Doing drunken fist is fine, but still, seing kids drinking alcohol is kind of disturbing.

But the theme is also used in anime, as in Naruto, where Rock Lee mistakenly drinks sake instead of medicine. This really made my day some years agoXD


Not too long ago, Jackie Chan did drunken fist in an American movie, called Forbidden kingdom. That was also really good, as one might expect:D

True legend, a Chinese movie from last year, also had drunken fist. I think that's the newest one I've seen.

Generally, I think half the fun of movies with drunken fist, is the expectation. Especially if you know the movie has it, and at the big fight you see the main person for some reason drink alcohol.
Then you think "yey, here it comes!", and get all excited about it.
And still, if it comes unexpected, you think "can it be?:D ...Yes it is! awesome!" and get just as exited:D

Sadly, I haven't seen that many films with this theme, just a handful. But maybe I'd go sick of it if I saw it all the time, so that might be just as well though.
But some of the movies in the showcase video here seems quite good, so I simply must check them out:D
